It is no secret that members of religious institutes in Australia and New Zealand – and elsewhere – are decreasing in number and increasing in age. We can wish that things were otherwise, or we can embrace and seek God’s presence in this new situation.
As we reflect on Helen McLaughlin RSCJ’s words, we can ask ourselves:
– might living old age within cultures that idealize youth be a new mission?
– what are we learning as we grow older?
– in what ways are we experiencing growing old as a ‘difficult art’?
