Following Phil Tiernan RSCJ’s tragic death, Kincoppal-Rose Bay School has received many suggestions of ways in which her contribution could be acknowledged. The School Board and the Principal, in consultation with Provincial, Sister Joan Pender, have decided to establish a Boarding Bursary to honour her memory. This will be known as the Philomene Tiernan RSCJ Boarding Bursary. It will provide financial support to students from country NSW, whose families wish their daughters to have a Sacred Heart education but who are in financial need. Phil was in charge of the boarding school from 1971-1972 and from 1976-1979. From 2012-2014 she was involved in the pastoral care and spiritual formation of the boarders.
The School has launched an appeal inviting donations to make it possible for a means tested bursary to be awarded in perpetuity, beginning in 2016. Phil cared passionately for the welfare of girls in the boarding school. They remember her care, her compassion and her wise guidance. We support this initiative as a fitting way to honour Phil.
