The Society of the Sacred Heart has been working for a long time to develop new structures that will assist and enable our mission and charism to flourish into the future. On August 31, 2025, the sisters from former provinces of Australia – New Zealand, Japan and Korea – Chinese, gathered on Zoom to celebrate our coming together as the new province of NEANZ, (North East Asia Australia New Zealand)
Sr Anne Corry, RSCJ has recently been appointed Provincial of NEANZ.
Anne’s address to the sisters of NEANZ, and a photo of her Team members, follow.
“It is wonderful to see you all! I am honoured to thank our provincials of the provinces of Korea-Chinese, (Sister Choi Hae Young), Japan (Sister Sachiko Tanase and, until April this year, Sister Mieko Uno), and Australia-New Zealand, (Sister Lynette Toohey), and each of their council members. On behalf of you all, I give thanks for the generous and courageous service of these sisters. I ask that we take one minute of deep silence to thank our sisters, in our hearts, for their great service. … With deep gratitude we say, Amen.
And welcome to NEANZ.. At this time my thoughts go to the piece of scripture from Genesis 12:1 where God tells Abram, “Leave your country … and go to the land I will show you.” That was a journey beyond the security of the familiar and at times it probably felt like a barren desert. Yet, as we know, it is a call that requires faith in God’s promise. We also know that this desert experience is an invitation to a deep inner conversion. I believe this is the excitement and the challenge of this NEANZ journey. So let us put our trust in God’s creative power in the creation of NEANZ and let us put our trust in one another.
I give sincere thanks to our sisters who have accepted the role of leadership on the NEANZ Council. Sisters Sachiko Tanase, Lynette Toohey and Chang Keung Ah. I give thanks to those who did so much preparation in bringing NEANZ to birth. I pray for them and for each one of you with gratitude and joy.”
